One concern that often crops up in the lives of those who want to achieve but cannot because of an inability to translate their desires and motivation into action is, how does one get out of this rut. A sister recently, may Allāh bless her, penned it so eloquently. I saw myself in her words, as I’m sure many others do so as well. She wrote about her desire to commit the Qurʾān to memory. She has the intelligence, she…
On a day like this, a Wednesday, from the most radiant of cities, from Masjid Al-Fatḥ, between Ḏhuhr and ʿAṣr, the most noble of Prophets ﷺ supplicated Allāh and Allāh responded. Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh said, “Thereafter, whenever a weighty and trying matter would burden me, I would pursue that hour to supplicate [Allāh] and I would always find an answer.” [Graded Ḥasan by Imām Al-Albānī, in: Ṣaḥīḥ at-Targhīb.]…
Um Sulaym came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “O Rasūl Allāh, teach me words through which I may beseech Allāh.” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “You glorify Allāh (subḥān Allāh) ten times, you praise Him (Al ḥamdu lillāh) ten times, and you exalt Him (Allāh Akbar) ten times. Then you ask Him for whatever you need, for He responds, ‘I have fulfilled it, I have fulfilled it.’” [Ṣaḥīḥ at-Targhīb, Imām Al-Albānī]…
There are certain people you meet who stay with you long after that meeting has passed. There is one such sister I met years ago. Her face is a blurred memory but she crosses my mind often. A few ʿEīds ago, during ʿEīd prayer, she enters the masjid with a throng of children of all sizes but mostly little. A lot of hustle and bustle, a lot of shushing, some little screeches, quite a few giggles… and her whispered threats…
Keep making duʿāʾ and keep trusting that Allāh sees your efforts and He hears your prayers. I say make duʿāʾ not as a hopeless plan b. But I say this because I know that so many people lose out on the good that Allāh gives because they give up on duʿāʾ too soon. Or they lose spirit too soon. Or they lose interest too soon. Allāh is al-Ḥakīm and He arranges our lives perfectly. Even if something causes us grief…
Allāh is al-Mujīb: The Fullfiller of Prayers; The Responsive One; The One who responds to needs of the creation. We learn that Allāh is al-Mujīb from what He relates to us in the Qurʾān. We affirm and believe in whatever He tells us about Himself in the Qurʾān and sunnah. This form of knowledge is called ʿilm al-yaqīn (a knowledge we are certain of and believe in.) But Allāh wants good for us, He wants our īmān to thrive in our hearts;…
