You can attend Islāmic seminars, talks and conferences regularly but none of it combined will have the same effect as attending a circle of knowledge at the feet of scholars in a house from the houses of Allāh, where the focus is on conveying ʿilm (rather than jokes and light humour with a copious amount of free-mixing *ducks*).
You can attend circles of knowledge at the feet of scholars regularly but none of it will have the effect that attending a ḥalaqah of the Qurʾān, where the Qurʾān is recited and studied, will have on you.
This effect isn’t limited to how much you gain in knowledge and understanding, but it is also extends to your heart.
In circles of knowledge in the houses of Allāh, beyond the knowledge is the raḥamāt and barakāt of Allāh descending upon the gathering that you don’t see. This is multiplied in a gathering where the Qurʾān is recited, and only the seasoned ones will be able to detect the difference, and only a seasoned soul will crave to be in a ḥalaqah of the Qurʾān after a while.
This is one reason that scholars from the time of the salaf made it a habit of holding Qurʾān Ḥalaqahs for children besides the regular circles of knowledge that they held.
In a gathering of the Qurʾān, you will find what you will not find anywhere else: Healing.
Healing from the ailments you were not aware that you suffered from. Healing for things that you struggle within. Healing from the doubts and desires. Healing for a malnourished heart and soul. What’s more; no matter how much of the Qurʾān you recite on your own in privacy, you will still not find what you will find in a gathering of the Qurʾān—even if you simply attend to listen to toddlers recite-screech the Qurʾān at you.
If you are a student of knowledge then set this as a policy for yourself: Attend circles of knowledge regularly and consistently, don’t ever skip a Qurʾān class—rain or shine, and if you’ve got time to kill then feel free to attend one of those fancy conferences.
