In our upcoming talk in the series ‘Akhlāq Ṭālib al-Qurʾān’, we will discuss the very important trait of khushūʿ.
Khushūʿ is a ‘ibādah qalbiya—it is an act of worship performed by the heart; it nurtures the heart, which then propels a slave of Allāh towards His obedience until the slave of Allāh embodies khushūʿ.
Without khushūʿ, worship becomes a series of actions void of meaning. A routine that a child can imitate.
Where we are meant to find solace and sustenance of the soul, we find emptiness. What is meant to reenergise our hearts to meet the challenges of this life becomes a burdensome chore.
The highest points of our days; our meetings with our Rabb, become the ideal place to map out our schedules and conversations with people.
Without khushūʿ we become distant from Allāh. Without khushū life loses its flavour.
Then we wonder why and how.
In this talk we will address what khushūʿ is, what it entails, what weakens it, how to achieve it with a special focus on practicing it in ṣalāh, reflections from verses in the Qurʾān that talk about khushūʿ, and more. We will also go over the guidance of our pious predecessors and of the later scholars on achieving khushūʿ in our ṣalāh and in our lives.
This talk is open to all women, but it especially targets students of the Qurʾān.
